About the data

What this portal reports, and how to read it

AFCL Data presents statistics computed from Africa Chess League records. The dashboard covers player registration, Arena participation, game activity and player engagement across AFCL competitions.

Statistics are updated periodically as new competition records are processed.

Data definitions

Registered player: A player with an AFCL registration record.
Arena entrant: A player who entered an AFCL Arena.
Returning entrant: An Arena entrant who had entered an earlier AFCL Arena. The first Arena has none by definition, so it is left out of the average.
Active player: A player whose most recent recorded game falls within the last 90 days.
Average field rating: The mean Lichess rating of the entrants in an Arena; the headline figure averages that across Arenas.
Draw rate: The share of recorded game results that ended in a draw.

Data methodology

Figures are calculated from AFCL competition and player records. Tournament-level statistics are aggregated from individual Arena entries and game results. Metrics may change as records are updated or corrected.
